Despite my job, I don't often recommend web sites to people. Most of the time I find that web site people recommend end up being rather bland. However, I recently came across http://www.worldmapper.org/ and simply have to throw it out there as being one worth visiting.
Beside being into technology/ICT (obviously), my first love is history and sociology. WorldMapper is an amazing visual tool for "seeing" trends in all kinds of statisical data from around the world. It would be a great discussion started with students as well.
Stop by and have a look. You will be glad you did.
