Who Shane?
... an eLearning Mentor at the University of Wolverhampton, a role which involved working closely with academics to help them plan and implement elearning activities in their curricula. Involved? Since Easter 2004 I have been working almost entirely on the development of an ePortfolio system - a system which we hope will add value to the student experience across Wolverhampton's entire portfolio. We think we have the best generic eportfolio solution in the world - universe probably; but then we would: wouldn't we?
So who am I? An academic; a technician; a teacher? I'm a sailor who learned to teach, who became a fireman with a Master's in Quality Management, who got a job as a teacher-educator because he could use PowerPoint! Is that the power of elearning? A busy 4 years at the School of Education saw my close involvement with the introduction of Interactive Whiteboards (matched with laptops for all staff); the design of a 'classroom of the future'; pedagogic development of our home grown VLE and dalliances with classroom voting systems; PDAs and wireless technology.
