Do you have an interest in mathematics education?

Do you support open access and reuse of educational materials?

Would you like a gift certificate to Amazon?

Many hands make light work. Through numerous contributions from numerous contributors, sites like Wikipedia have developed into valuable resources for educators. I am conducting a study that explores some aspects of offering a similar system for mathematics instruction. Would you like to participate?

This experiment takes place entirely over the web. You will be supported by a software tool to help you create instruction to teach math to struggling students. With your optional consent, the materials you make will be made available to other teachers and their students. You must be 18 or older to participate.

Click this link for the full description: http://education.hciresearch.org/pythagorean/authoring/

Hi all,

As someone who is thrashing about trying to identify which, of all the dozens of research aspects that interest me, to choose for Masters (with a view to upgrading to PhD), I'd be interested to know just how much your research topics have changed since your initial application to start your project.

That is, when you filled in your application form, how accurate/tight was your research question, compared to where you were several months down the track? Have you ended up using the theories/frameworks you initially thought you'd use? How much has your scope changed? Has your topic changed in any fundamental way?

Hello, my name is Zinan! I am in the 2nd year of my Master at University of Saskatchewan, Canada, working on connecting e-portfolios and learner models in ITS/ALEs. After reading several previous posts and comments, I would like to add something from my perspective. Have you ever had a dream come true? Right, finishing a PHD was my dream when I was at elementary school, because I thought if I had a PHD, I will know more than my teacher so that I can be the teacher (I hate school at that time). After all these years, I 've changed my mind, because my current supervisor Prof. Jim Greer is a distinguished graduate supervisor, I wish I could become a good man just like him, and teach more students like me, and to clean up the dirty news(I have heard enough negative and funny story acorss the schools, not all the profs are worth respect). Of course I have my research goal to work on, I hope I can make some effort for achieving personalized learning through e-portfolios.

BTW, I am sorry I can't speak fluent English(an obstacle for me to pursue a PHD), but I am smart enough to talk with you adults! :)

Hi Researchers,

I've just joined this community because I'm planning to begin a Masters by Research next year. I'm still trying to work out my topic, and I'm using my blog as a reflective journal to work through ideas and clarify my thinking. My blog is restricted to logged in users at the moment.

Broadly speaking, I'm thinking of looking at the use of the internet by activist groups, but this is a huge area. I'm reading up on it at the moment with the intention of identifying a specific research problem for me to address.

This is the first online community I've ever been properly involved in. As I am new to netiquette in this type of forum, please let me know if I say/do anything inappropriate.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Glad to be a member of the group. Dave, I think our research interests overlap. I'm in the very early stages of defining my topic, but it is likely to deal with e-Portfolios and social networks somehow. Not sure exactly what yet.

Anyway, glad to be part of your community! Gambate, as they say in Japanese!
