"Elgg provides the tools necessary to set up ‘personal learning landscapes’. It includes tools for online journals (blogs), an e-portfolio in which pupils can store and showcase their work in a range of formats, and software to support resource tagging and social networks. It works well at a school level, again installed on our webserver, encouraging our pupils to write for pleasure and for one another, as well as reflecting on their experiences inside and outside school. It would work even better within a group of schools where communities of shared interests could be established, and work could be shared with an even wider audience. We’ve found that it works best when pupils have a focus to their writing, such as a book review, or an evaluation of a unit of work. It’s still in the early stages of development, but it’s got huge potential and is well worth exploring."

2006 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Elgg and we are hopeful that, with your help, we will be able to reach v1.0 and in the process build a system that many people will find useful.
Many thanks and best wishes for 2006!
