We are pleased to announce that communities on Elgg.net all now have attached wikis. Thanks to Brian Lamb at the University of British Columbia's Office of Learning Technology for this collaboration, which we hope will be another useful feature of this site.

Wikis are currently exclusive to Elgg.net (as opposed to being a standard feature of the Elgg software), although if you've got one up and running that you'd like to incorporate into your own Elgg installation we'd be happy to show you how.

It is worth noting that for now this is a trial to find out if it is something Elgg users want to have. For that reason it is externally hosted at UBC and opens up in an additional window. If the demand is there we will incorporate a wiki tool into Elgg so you would have proper navigation to go between your Elgg community and the community wiki.

Elgg needs a logo!

Therefore, we're running a competition, closing the end of July, with a prize of £100 (around US$185) in the form of your choice - be it Amazon certificates, bank transfer, whatever. It's not a huge prize, but we're hoping it'll be enough to make it fun to join in.

What we want is a new logo, in a format that we can use both on our website (i.e., with relatively small dimensions) and on printed material (bigger) with a range of background colours. Submissions should be in Photoshop, Illustrator, EPS or Paint Shop Pro formats with all layers intact.

Elgg is of course a Learning Landscape system - feel free to incorporate that term if you like, or don't if you feel the name stands out on its own.

We reserve the right to not use any of the submitted logos if we feel they are not right for us - you're a talented bunch and I'm sure that won't be the case - but we will definitely hand out a prize.

Best of luck to all of you. Entries should be directed to system@elgg.net.

Elgg 0.2 has left the building. Click here to download it from SourceForge.

This is a much improved version. New features include communities, cookied logins, XML-RPC and much, much more. Elgg can now be installed in a subdirectory as well as in the root of a server (something a lot of people have been asking for), and this release collates all of the improvements you've been seeing on Elgg.net over the past two months and a few extras.

An installation community has been set up, this includes an FAQ wiki.

A big thanks to Misja Hoebe and Leonard Lin for their excellent contributions. Full details can be found in the release pack.

This is a quick reminder about the Elgg logo competition. If you are a budding graphic designer or someone who likes designing, why not send in your entry - it may be good publicity!

It has also been suggested to us that the name 'Elgg' is not up to scratch. What do you think? Perhaps you have a better suggestion? If so please let us know.

Good luck to all those that enter!
