EduSpaces news :: Blog :: Some new features to try out

March 28, 2007

A few new features have been added to Edu Spaces.

  1. New widget based profiles. You can add various content to your profile via the widgets including a comment wall which is quite cool to just post short messages on to peoples profiles
  2. The presentation tool - just select 'Your presentations' from the top menu bar and begin building away.
  3. A large profile picture - this is a great way to make the profiles more personable
  4. Private messaging
  5. The search has been integrated with Explode so you can find others who share your interests but might not be on Edu Spaces (this is still very much in the testing phase)

  1. Hi. The presentation tool works great. I demoed it to a group of about 40 yesterday at a local JISC e-porfolio event and the feedback I got was very good. Three cheers for Brighton and Stan. I did the demo here in Eduspaces as the tool isn't available in Elgg Spaces yet where I ran the hands-on workshop.

Sorry if I am being a bit thick and have missed something but dragging widgets into my profile columns doesn't seem to work. There is no save button and they aren't there when I return to view my profile. I'd like a comment wall! And I can't see any way of uploading or adding a larger picture. Any tips?

  2. Hi Terry - it seems the presentation tool is getting some good attention. I really like it and think it can be very powerful in a learning context.

Just click on your edit profile link as before, it is now the first field.

    > dragging widgets into my profile columns doesn't seem to work

Hmm, this is all ajax based, therefore there is no need to save. What happens when you drag a widget onto the left or right column? Does it stay there or disappear?

    Cheers.

  3. Thanks. Found the big picture upload now. Just needed to use my eyes!

It looks like the widget problem is related to IE7 on my PC. I have just tried it in Firefox and it has worked fine. It would be useful to discover if this is a general problem for IE7 or just a particular setting.

  5. I also have trouble with the widget tool using IE6.

  6. I like the Presentation tool and hope to use it more... but I keep getting spam comments on my current presentation, and I am not notified of added comments like I am with my blog.

    Suggestions:

Ability to remove the comment option on presentations, (without affecting your blog),

and/or having comment notification for presentations.

    Thanks!
