The lead theme for the TESOL convention in New York is - thought provoking: Worlds of TESOL: Building Communities of Practice, Inquiry, and Creativity. Leading up to this Convention, my friend Moira Hunter asked me to invite CPSQ members to attend the unique and free, online workshops known as TESOL Electronic Village Online 08. (Targeting language educators and others with an interest in online communication and community building strategies and technologies). This is where I really got deeply immersed in online community building for educators, with the Webheads in Action (way back in 2002). Strongly recommended! Here is the official invitation:

The CALL Interest Section of the international TESOL professional association is pleased to offer the opportunity to participate in the Electronic Village Online (EVO) 2008 season. This is a professional development project and virtual extension of the TESOL 2008 Convention in New York. The intended audience for this project includes both TESOL 2008 participants and those who can participate only virtually.

You do not need to be a TESOL member to participate in this free , six-week , wholly online session of the EVO,Jan 14 - Feb 24, 2008. Please visit our Announcement Page to select one or two among the various offerings. http://evo08sessionscfp.pbwiki.com/ Feel free to distribute this announcement.

Looking forward to having you in the EVO 2008 sessions,

Yours in TESOL ,

Moira Hunter On behalf of the EVO coordination team

This is really proud news in the World of Webheads. Teresa d'Eca was nominated for the European ELearning award 07, and her winning project in the category Innovative schools Tere has described this  CALL project as follows: It's a curricular blog for my 5th & 6th graders (1st-2nd year EFL) for learning English with the help of different Web 2.0 tools. Each lesson has different objectives, activities and a report written by me. Some have follow-up activities.

See her project page at http://call05-06.motime.com/

Teresa is teaching young beginner students grade 5-6 in Parede, Portugal. We have met several times in RL,  and in 2002, I was a guest at her school. Congratulations with your hard work and the fruit - a neat money award for your school as well as a Smartboard with relevant software. Now we can look forward to learn how your innovative teacher mind will adapt the Smartboard!

Well, as it appears, our community host Eduspaces is closing down. There seem to be an offer of continued hosting in some other education community, named takingITglobal, with Canadian outspring: http://www.takingitglobal.org/

I'm just wondering if this is what I want and need by now. Will try to move and update older blog posts, and see where this will take me. Works more within the twitter & facebook framework the past few months anyway, but this might not be my preferred in the long run - more of a viral effect as so many people that I alrwady know are also experimeting with these and similar  social tools.

Happy new year anyway, and hopefully connecting in 2008
