Introduction
Welcome to the National Career Development Association (NCDA) community blog.
The National Career Development Association (NCDA) is a division of the American Counseling Association (ACA). The mission of NCDA is to promote the career development of all people over the life span. To achieve this mission, NCDA provides service to the public and professionals involved with or interested in career development, including professional development activities, publications, research, public information, professional standards, advocacy, and recognition for achievement and service.
- The NCDA blog is built upon Elgg, a fully customizable "learning landscape": a hybrid of weblogging, e-portfolios and social networking. Click here to learn more and perhaps create an Elgg account so you can create your own learning space and connect to others who share your interests. ("Click here" will take you to the CCC FAQs. I'll create an NCDA FAQs later and direct this link there.)
- This NCDA blog is one of several NCDA e-communication channels
- The NCDA website http://www.ncda.org provides updated information about NCDA activities and links to other important career websites.
- NCDA Forums http://www.ncda-forums.org is a "virtual conference" discussion board for more "formal" and focused conversations about specific topics within the struture of forums.
- "Career Convergence" ... (more later)
- "Career Developments" ... (more later)
- "Career Development Quarterly" ... (more later)
- This NCDA blog is the least formal and least structured of all NCDA channels. Use it to present, discuss and incubate your ideas. Or just talk about any career development topics or issues that interest you. "Tag" your posts so others with similar interests can find you.
- When you mention a topic that already exists on one of the other NCDA e-communication channels, consider cross-referencing it via a hyperlink. Or better yet, develop your post to the point that you can "publish" it in one of those channels above! (I'll provide more info.)
From time to time you will discover some interesting posts in this NCDA or the Elgg blog. But none of us have the time to wade thru the torrent of words on those posts to find topics that match our interests or passions. When you reach a point where you trust certain blog posters either on Elgg or the NCDA blog, Elgg provides RSS feeds and aggregation which simply mean that you can identify those authors or specific keywords (tags) of interest and only read posts about them.
Web 2.0 platforms like Elgg are providing tools that bring the information you want and need TO you rather than you having to seek out each morsel. You just need to invest some time up front to learn a few basics.
I'll do my best to make that educational experience as painless and as rewarding as possible.
I hope you'll bookmark this main webpage of the NCDA blog at http://elgg.net/ncda as a "Favorite" and visit it periodically.
