Moodle Vanguard :: Blog :: Security, Site Policies, maxbytes

January 16, 2008

Just a word of wisdom!

Do not mess up the maxbytes setting in security > site policies "Maximum uploaded file size"

This value should be the calculated number of bytes that corresponds to your maximum upload size.  If you don't get this number right, then all assignments created while the setting is incorrect will reflect the incorrect limit.  Usually, however, the upload size can be reset to force a database change.  For example, I reset to 2MB, saved, and then reset back to 32MB.  Most of our instructors simply use the default setting.

Another "Duh!" for me. . .  Carelessness, of course.

  1. This caught me out, especially since the setting in php.ini is in megabytes! In fact, I am sure that in previous Moodle versions the units have been megabytes. I managed to give all our users a max upload size of 128 bytes as a result. But the max setting is dependent upon the php settings and I'm kind of surprised that the developers don't get it from there.
