The mail server that processes all email from moodle.org was taken offline by a freak explosion at our ISP:

http://tech.slashdot.org/tech/08/06/01/1715247.shtml

As a result all email from this site (copies of forum postings and messages, as well as signup emails) was lost for a period of 36 hours or so.

Everything should be OK now, but if you're waiting for a signup email you might want to try signing up again. Please contact us via support@moodle.org if you continue seeing problems here.

Moodle is an amazingly competent and powerful open source learning management system used by schools, colleges and universities all over the world. It is based on the theory of social constructivism, which essentially means that people learn better in groups than they do on their own. Moodle has a powerful set of tools to support this mode of learning, and as more teachers come into contact with Moodle it becomes increasingly important to understand how to use these tools well to engage and direct student learning.

In this episode we are joined by three highly experiences Moodle users who share some insights with us. Talia Carbis, Darrel Branson and Julian Ridden each work intensively with Moodle in three different settings and in different ways.

  • Newsflash!
It looks like the dates for the 2008 UK MoodleMoot will be October 16th and 17th. We are just finalising the venue details at present, but we suggest that if you wish to attend and present, that you send in your name and an outline as soon as you can (until we can get the database for this set up, please email them to Jon Allen, Jason Cole or myself). We apologise for the delay in announcing this - the difficulty lay in finding a venue large enough for the size that the Moot has grown to, without having to charge a small fortune in registration fees.

As soon as we have more information about the venue, and details regarding registration, we will post them here.

Moodle Moot SF08 was a GREAT event!

Wonderful to meet so many USA Moodlers - some of whom I have known online for many years - but really great to meet in person.

The official website does not seem to have a place to put presentations(?!), or discuss afterwards - so anyone who wants to get in touch with me about MTC or social-networking in Moodle just drop me an email wink

Stuart

Stuart - I agree that the Moot was a wonderful opportunity to meet a number of fine folks in person. It has given me a great deal of energy and renewed enthusiasm. I was under the impression that the presentations were going to be made available somewhere online along with the audio from the presentations. I'm not sure when or where this will happen but I figure that someone will let us know shortly. I'll see if I can ask around and see what the plans are. Peace - Anthony

I received an email from Jon Allen confirming that it will take a bit of time to prepare the materials from the Moot for distribution but they will be made available once they are ready. In addition, he made a post at http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=99350#p438993. Peace - Anthony

Moodle leaves choice of features up to faculty, students

Type: Newspaper article

From: Scott Holley

Published: 16 June 2008

The University's new course management system, Moodle, is making its debut this semester.

"We've gotten nearly everybody from Blackboard over to Moodle," said Sheri Thompson, IT Communications and Planning Officer. "If we're not at 100 percent, we're really close."

Moodle will become the University's only course management system after Semester Book is phased out in December.

We had a successful MoodleMoot last week, with over 150 attendees largely from the SouthWestern region of the U.S. Our attendees had a week to complete evaluations of our sessions, and we're now opening up our MoodleMoot site to guests, so you can see what we've been doing.

Most of our presenters left us with something to review, and while viewing courses and session presentations after the fact is never as good as being there in person, but hopefully we've done something you might find of interest!

You're welcome to take a look at http://moodle.metrotech.org/ - feel free to let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Matt
