hi Jon / Jason,

I'll be coming to the US Moot on my way back to Oz from Railsconf (in Portland). Is there a particular hotel where folk for the Moot will be staying (the moot website just has a link to the 20-30 hotels in the area)? Are there any group bookings/rates arranged?

Cheers - looking forward to the Moot!

Myles C.

Good Morning,

We opened a wiki on the course for the SF Moot on moodlemoot.org for attendees to list where they are staying, but so far we don't have any participation. I'll ping everyone and see if we can encourage more activity. You can find the wiki at:

Thanks, we'll see you in June!

The American Association of Community College’s Instructional Technology Council (ITC) has just published its 2007 Distance Education Survey Results, covering data from 154 U.S. community colleges. And there’s a lot of interesting stuff in it.

Having had much involvement myself with delivering e-seminars online, I've come to closely track the fast-growing world of online learning (e-learning). It's becoming a huge business, with big publishing companies such as CNet offering free online courses, and top universities such as U.C. Berkeley offering free webcasts and podcasts to the public. The United States is the single largest e-learning market worldwide with revenues exceeding $17.5 billion in 2007, according to a report from Global Industry Analysts. Did you know that one of the biggest players in software and platforms for e-learning is a free, open source offering? If not, meet Moodle.

Cross Post Alert! smile

The 2008 Moodle Moot in San Francisco is coming up quickly. We have only 10 more days to register with the early bird discount. In addition, there are a few other conferences happening in San Francisco during the same days as the Moot, the most notable being the Apple WWDC conference. The folks that I've spoken with at the hotels near the conference center have said that they have space now, but that they expect it to fill up soon. I recommend that if you are planning to join us, you get registered soon and secure a hotel room.

We are quite familiar with the restrictions that purchasing departments put on registering and attending conferences. If you have any special needs, you can contact me directly at:

We will be able to accommodate any special needs that you may have. Thanks, and we hope to see you in June,

Some Blackboard and Semester Book users feel the migration to Moodle is like "switching from a Lexus to a stock car."

"Personally, I think of Moodle as a James Bond car - we just haven't put in the leather interior and jet seats yet," Sheri Thompson, informational technology planning and communications officer, said. "But they are coming."
