Who am I?
I am 22, and have just started back as a communication honours student at RMIT, in the media stream at LABsome. As such, I am planning to complete a research project looking into our national identity, as represented in the opening ceremonies of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, and the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony. I want to look at how these ceremonies protray Australians to the rest of the world, and particularly the broadcast experience of the Ceremony, as that is the way in which the vast majority of the audience will experience the ceremony.
I want to look at how “holding the games represents a dual opportunity, both external and internal in orientation: not only can the nation show off itself off as such to other nations, but it also provides a basis for the symbolic unification of the members of a nation, regardless of how diverse they may be.”
Sinclair, J. “More than an old flame: national symbolism and the media in the torch ceremony of the Olympics.” Media International Australia No.97(November 2000), pp.37
So that is what I am now all about for 2 years.
I also work full time at a TAFE college, doing media and admin (we are opening a bar in a couple of months yay!) have recenty travelled to USA, UK and a little through Europe, and enjoy beaching, reading, watching trashy TV (All Saints, OC and Big Brother - which is back on and trashy as ever - i love it!!).
