I'm very pleased to be able to announce that this year's Elgg conference (ElggJam) will be held at the university of Brighton on 11th July. Whilst this has already been advertised on Eduspaces elsewhere and on Explode, I thought I'd also post it here as several people expressed an interest when I first posted about it a while ago. The conference is free and will include a buffet lunch and will be held in our new state-of-the-art Creativity centre so expect some stunning visuals! We're getting a significant amount of interest and currently, there are only 20 places left so if you wish to come along, please register by sending an email to ElggJam07@brighton.ac.uk. For more details, visit the conference web site at http://community.brighton.ac.uk/e10/ . We're also trying to arrange remote/web conferencing to allow those who can't make it to participate so if you're interested let us know and it will help us determine what technologies we need to have in place to cater for demand.

An interesting recent use of Community@Brighton has been to discuss options for the university's new smoking policy. This has created much discussion with comments going to 2 pages (Elgg actually pagenates comment pages when they get overly long!) and it strikes me the success of the exercise might herald a new approach to guaging opinion for other policy decisions.
