I'm still in the throes of trying to move my WordPress blog to another server.

They have moved the files, but there is still a lot to do; though several people at work have given me handy hints as to how I should start to go about it.

I've now got a backup of the database on my hard drive, have edited some of the tables that needed editing. The scary thing, though, is the fact that I have to now drop all the tables & re-build them from the backup.

I think that I might also have to edit the .htaccess file - but when I tried what seemed to be the right thing, it didn't work.

Sites that have been useful so far have been

Discovering that phpmyadmin is installed on the University servers was useful as well, having tried to do a lot of stuff through a command line!

When faced with all of this, I did wonder if I wanted to scrap that one totally and just use this. I think that Elgg serves the needs of students well, and it's what I'm pressing for as a University blog system. I'd stuck, though, to my WordPress blog before, as it was the one that was really getting the hits.

NOw that it's died, and I guess it will stop being found for a while (there are some useful WordPress plugins for re-directing in the case of a new blog, but you have to have the old one up and running to do it - which I don't).

A few headaches!

I have now got my WordPress blog back up and running - the only problem is that I had to manually edit all the files ...

Meanwhile, I am also trying to get Elgg installed locally, so that might solve my problems.
