I got a new blog/site: http://maberui.webs.upv.es
The old one is all gone (problems with php update at UPV Server) so I thought well it's about time to start a new one, and it's here to stay.

I've decided to revisit elgg (the new Eduspaces), and take a look at how I can best use this space. So far, so good. I like the way it works, but I'm not so sure about the new presentations feature. I'd like to find someone who uses this to see an example of how it works as it sounds great in theory.

Hi to all Catalan Culture students! This is just a message to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2006! It was a pleasure meeting you, and Thanks for trying out elgg with me - I hope you continue to use it and you find it useful for your own studies in the future.

It would appear that an rss 2.0 feed is created from files uploaded into a user's account. I plugged the feed into my aggregator and the recently uploaded mp3 showed up (ready for download).
Seems to me, this is podcasting. A couple of questions arise: Are any elgg members using this system to distribute media files as podcasts? Are the Elgg elders willing and able accomodate such podcast feeds that consume excessive bandwidth? Keywords: file_uploads podcasting Posted by Scott Lockman | 3 comment(s) November 10, 2005
OK everyone, here's what I'd like you to do for Assignment 3:
As you all know, we have our last face-to-face session tomorrow, in Sala Luis Espinal, from 9.00 - 12.00. This is your opportunity to give a short presentation about an aspect of Catalan culture that you have become interested in while you have been here. Related to this, I'd like everyone to take notes and to write a reaction / comments about 3 of the presentations that you see. What did you find interesting about it, what is your opinion of what was presented, etc. That's all. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. Posted by Graham Stanley | 4 comment(s)
OK everybody - I know it's been a while, and I promised to tell you the address and name of that restaurant, but time flies, as I'm sure you all know.
The restaurant in la Barceloneta which is really a 'casa de comidas' (lower category than restaurant), but which serves incredibly fresh fish at wonderful prices is: Casa MaƱo, Calle Baluard It's near the market. They have their own boat and go out at night to catch what they can. They serve what they find in the restaurant, so it's totally fresh. Posted by Graham Stanley | 0 comment(s) October 18, 2005
First of all, apologies to everyone for not repsponding to your blog entries quicker - I'm catching up tonight, and hope to reply to everyone.
I've been having fun reading what you've all been up to, and I'm sorry I haven't managed to find/remember the address / name of that fabulous seafood restaurant in the Barceloneta yet - I will get it for you. I hope most of you have seen by now that the first assignment has been posted - go to the Catalan Culture group and look at the weblog, and you'll see it. Please respond to this soon as we can then move on. It does sound like you're all having a great time (apart from some mishaps and the regretable robbery of course) - may you continue to have a fab time, and I look forward to reading more about your exploits. I only wish we'd had more time to know each other f2f (face to face)as you sound like a cool group of students. Ah well, you can't have everything in life, can you? This week (Sept 30th - October 12th) at the fountains of Mont Juic, you'll find the Boulevard of Broken Dreams, a theatre company that have been in Barcelona three times now. It's a great and original thing to visit, and you'll find there'll be small and wacky theatre and cabaret acts as well as food and drink, in a circus-travelling show tpye environment.
Go along and see it - you won't be disappointed. Posted by Graham Stanley | 3 comment(s) September 07, 2005
This is the first semester that I've asked students to use a weblog. Based on advise from some more experienced ESL/EFL educators, I decided to have the students use blogger. Starting with a class blog ( http://p2b-cc.blogspot.com ) as an example of what a blog is and a tool for me to communicate class info to the students, we've been able to create 19 student blogs after only 2 class meetings.
I've been suprised and impressed with the students enthusiasm thus far. Links to the student blogs are in the sidebar of the classblog mentioned above. Here is my question/problem: Comment spam was placed in a student blog today. The student's blog requires registerd users. This spam was from some knucklehead with a blogger account. I wonder how to deal with this. Clearly, this will be something we can discuss as a class in a future meeting. But I wonder if we should lock down the blogs so that only classmates can participate. Has anyone else had to deal with issue? Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks. Coming from the ESL/EFL side of the house, I am a big fan of Dekita.org. Recently Rudolf Ammann made a call for a Central Weblog Exchange where students and instructors could find a directory type listing of blogs by esl/efl students. I would love to find such a resource.
Heck, I'd even be willing to throw my limited skills into compiling and maintaining such a listing. Anybody else interested?? Keywords: directory, student blogs Posted by Scott Lockman | 1 comment(s) |
