soc211 poverty and hunger :: Blog :: Social Problems are in the eye of the beholder

October 08, 2005

In my oppinion people in power do not see our problem as a social problem. They would believe that it is a person blame. People will see that poverty and hunger happens in others countries and see that as a social problem but I don't think they believe tht we have the same problem here in our own country. When do you see many people with power or money come to a poor part of a town or rural area. Not very often if at all. So only the people in the situation are the ones who are going to agree that Hunger And Poverty are a Social Problem.

  1. I agree that the people in power don't see hunger or poverty as problems. I also agree that it is mainly because they blame the individual for the problems we are discussing in this weblog and in our class. I like to ask family members and friends what they think about this. My friends usually feel the same way I do about these issues. My mom, for example, came to the US during WWII and thinks that poor people and homeless people are simply too lazy to work. It is scary to think that others feel the same way she does. I expect that is the reason why more isn't done about these serious issues.
