Deborah Harper, President of Psychjourney, interviews Ms. Marya Hornbacher, author of Madness: A Memoir published by Houghton Mifflin.

Marya Hornbacher published her first book, Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia (HarperCollins Publishers, Inc.), in 1998, when she was twenty-three. What started as a crazy idea suggested by a writer friend became the classic book that has been published in fourteen languages, is taught in universities and writing programs all over the world, and has, according to the thousands of letters Marya has received over the years, changed lives.

Her second book, the acclaimed novel The Center of Winter (HarperCollins, 2005) has been called "masterful," "gorgeous writing," "a stunning achievement of storytelling," "delicious," and "compulsive reading." Told in three voices, by six-year-old Kate, her mentally ill brother Esau, and their mother Claire, The Center of Winter is the story of a family recovering from a father's suicide in the spare, wintry Minnesota north, a story of struggle, transformation, and hope.

Marya's new memoir Madness: A Life (Houghton Mifflin) is an intense, beautifully written book about the difficulties, and promise, of living with mental illness. It is already being called "the most visceral, important book on mental illness to be published in years."

The recipient of a host of awards for journalism and a Pulitzer Prize nominee, Marya has lectured at universities around the country, taught writing and literature, and published in academic and literary journals since 1992. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband Jeff, their cats Shakespeare and T.S. Eliot, and their miniature dachshunds Milton and Dante.  Visit her website.

Dr. Kevin Keough, host of the Warrior Traditions Podcast, interviews Jim Standing Bear.

Jim Standing Bear Wheatley is a Comanche/Choctaw artist. His father was adopted and the road to discovering his ancestry has been a long and difficult. Jim's prayers come to him sometimes in the early morning with the sun, sometimes by a river bank, and sometimes when he is with his wife and son. Creating with the wood is his way of sharing what is inside. Even the wood is specially selected. Each piece must speak to his heart. Jim believes that using the pictures of the old ones is a way of honoring their lives and keeping their wisdom alive in all of our hearts. Some writings are original and some are quotes from great Native Americans of the past....

Special orders can be created if there is a saying or prayer that is meaningful to the person wanting the piece. The native peoples are very important to Jim. One of his greatest joys is speaking with the Elders and listening to their stories. Originally, the wood creations started because Jim had the need to share what was in his heart. He felt it was something he had to do. has become his way of getting in touch with his spiritual side. Visit the Dakota S.W. Traders website and the Tiger Mountain Ranch Resort website.

Dr. Kevin Keough, creator of the Warrior Traditions Project, interviews Mr. Clint Overland, co-host of the Warrior Traditions Podcast.

Born in Lubbock Tx in 1969, I was reared in the rough and tumble world of farmers, ranchers, truckers and rednecks. I spent a stint in the U.S. Air Force in the late 80's and early 90's. I began a life of bouncing and other less honorable jobs at this time. I have been arrested more times than I'll talk about but never convicted. Been shot, stabbed, set on fire, and beat with everything from beer bottles to golf clubs.

I am the proud father of four great kids and the husband of a very patient wife who deals with my insanity to the best of her ability. I have spent the past 8 years trying to change my life and make up for some of the evil I've done. I am a Christian but not a good one (Thanks God for grace) and still trying to improve. I hope that I can make a difference in just one person's live through the Warriors Heart and if I do, it makes it all worthwhile.

You can contact me at coverland69@suddenlink.net or add me as a friend at http://www.myspace.com/performanceevolution
