After several days away from Elgg, I came back again to try to find my way around. I have made some progres, maybe motivated by the fact that I found a couple of comments to my first message.
I have been able to add some friends and create a community, where I found a wiki which I was able to edit, and even add a new page.

Now that I writing a new post, I find that there is no preview feature and no information whether we can use html or wiki style tags, hmmm. Can I add images to these entries? hmmmm

Definitely, I need to learn more about this before I can bring my students here.
