TextWorx Toolshed...
A collections of programs and resources for the disassembly,
reorganization, and reassembly of language... hopefully useful for
writers and experimentalists who want to jumpstart their creativity, or
otherwise wreck havoc upon an unsuspecting text.
I got many of these programs originally from Ficus Strangelensis; some
of them subsequently appeared at the Computer Generated Writing site
[lien casse]
(which is sometimes unavailable lately, and is in need of
updating--that's why I'm putting this up). A couple of other leads came
from Chris Reiner's Witz site
[lien casse], from Ron Starr's
Poetry Tools page, and from searching the
InfoMac HyperArchives.
Most of these are for Mac, but there are a few Dos/Windows programs,
too. I'll be working on adding a section of Web-based resources,
eventually. Any suggestions, additions or corrections to this
collection are welcome: contact luigi before sending anything.
Mac Programs:
ANAGRAMS 1.4 This program makes it fun and easy to find interesting
anagrams. If you've tried Ars Magna or Karma Manager then we think
you'll find Anagrams a pleasant alternative.
CHAOS POETRY GENERATOR is a HyperCard based writing tool to help
writers break through writers block. Full documentation is included
within the stack, but a simple explanation is that ChaosPoetry
Generator is a random string generator wherein you control the
strings.
CHEF, a program to twist text into something similar to the gibberish
uttered by the Swedish chef on the Muppets.
DECIDE is a Creative Writing Aid based on an Idea in Keith Johnstone's
groovy book "Impro". Basically, you build a story by asking simple
questions that can be answered with a "yes" or "no". Decider will make
choices for you based on your questions.
DECONSTRUCTOR, a program to generate new text probabilistically based on an input text.
ELECTRIC POET can use an ordinary text file as a mould for creating its
own litterary works. This works best with abstract poetry where it's
sometimes hard to tell real from bogus.
FOGGY, a Hypercard stack based on a DOS program that will generate
sentences based on fixed phrases and variable syntax. The subject of
the sentences include Chomskyan grammar, Software Development and
Folklore Research.
HAIKUMASTER, a Hypercard stack to generate Haiku
IMAGINAME 1.0.1 - A small app which creates 'names' randomly.
NEW! JANUSNODE 1.08 - "A virtual robot built to fulfill a single
function: to manufacture textual possibility that material entities
such as yourself endow with value. It can perform that single task with
extreme dedication, high reliability, in parallel, and at very low
cost." Much revised reincarnation of McPoet [archived at MIT's
InfoMac library: search there if our link is not the latest version.]

KANT GENERATOR Pro 1.3.1 generates endless amounts of pseudo-Kantian
gibberish based on the vocabulary and sentence structure of Immanual
Kant's "Critique of Pure Reason." You can also create your own
generation modules to generate anything you like.
MacPROSE, from Charles O. Hartman: http://camel.conncoll.edu/ccother/cohar/programs/index.html

MacTRAVESTY is a small program that analyses a text file and lists all
the character groups contained in the text. A new pseudorandom text
based on the language specific character frequencies can then be
generated.
MAKE SOME POEMS generates poems by choosing at random from among words
which you supply to it and then slotting those words into a poem
structure.

MBA PHRASE GENERATOR a simple phrase generator intended to produce Wall Street obfuscated catchphrases.
McPOET is a set of tools for text generation and text morphing: that
is, tools for writing computer-generated and computer-assisted poetry.
It uses its own simple language to allow the text-generation rules to
be completely user-configurable. [Replaced by Janus
[lien casse], 2/13/2000]
MERZPOETRY a Hypercard stack capable of generating poems and pictures according to Merz' DaDa rules.
NEOLOGISMS DICTIONARY, a dictionary of human-generated neologisms (i.e.
new words constructed by combining suffixes and prefixes in a new
manner.)
PATALITERATOR, a Hypercard stack for randomly generating neologisms,
not just based on prefixes and suffixes but also on
syllables.
ROBO RITER, an automatic poetry-writing machine. Robo Riter creates
profound and deeply moving Ballads, French Lais, Haiku, and
Limericks--at the push of a button! Version 3.1 includes a revised
interface, expanded word lists and improved algorithms, for the finest
in automated poesy.

"filters" such as dyslexia, stuttering, code etc., modifying the output
further.
COGNATE, a linguistic program for analyzing words from different
languages and determining if they are likely to be derived from each
other.
RAY KURZWEIL'S CYBERNETIC POET (RKCP) is a computer generated poetry
