Bob Irving
Who am I?
I am presently the Middle School Technology Coordinator at Lancaster Country Day School in Lancaster,PA. LCDS is an independent PK-12 non-sectarian day school of over 500 students. I also teach programming, computers, and English.
My main passion is finding the "aha" moments at the intersection of technology and learning. I believe that we are at a critical juncture in history, akin to the industrial revolution or the introduction of the printing press. Our modes of learning and interacting with the world are changing dramatically due to the digital revolution, and I believe education must change as well. For most "digital natives", this is not an "aha" moment, but a "ho hum" moment. For many digital immigrants, it can be either an "aha" or an "oh no" moment. I like to help these immigrants make the transition.
I'm also a big believer in open source software in education and use as much as I can in my classes, particularly Squeak and Moodle. Elgg looks very interesting, and I'm looking forward to trying it out.
I also have a web design biz on the side (digitalriff.com), and am a passionate fan of blues music and run a blues blog at www.bluesrow.com.
