...it would sit between Japan and Mexico in terms of population - (106 million registered users)
This staggering presentation of statistics and superlatives relating to technology in education is really worth a look and left me with a slightly panicked feeling at the end of the slides!
It comes from Dr J S Euh of Samsung and was delivered at the Handheld Learning Conference 2007 in London. What strikes me as worth exploring is the role that library and information professionals can play to help their organisations sneak a lead in the knowledge economy - this predicted environment of superfast, unprecedented access to information. (Well, its pretty superfast now)
It mentions that around 2.7 billion searches are made with Google per month and to whom were these questions addressed before?..... Librarians?
http://handheldlearning.blip.tv/file/450752To my mind it sells itself as a tool for library staff to get out there. Anyway in my continuous quest to keep on top of stuff I am looking for examples of current practice that people know work well in their libraries.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) I am delivering a session looking at the social web to a group of Art & Design librarians and would welcome any comments or suggestions that I may be able to
add to my presentation to better contextualise it for art librarians
My experience so far in the teaching sector for Art & Design is that Blogs are being used quite well as a kind of e-Portfolio and marketing tool for final year shows, job applications etc I am wondering how librarians can complement this
Cheers
